You do not need to wait until September to enrol. When doing a teaching assistant course from home, you can enrol any day of the year.
For any Award courses you will not need a placement. However, if you’re planning to take a Certificate or Diploma course, you’ll need to do a placement. Ideally, in a school and working with children in reception year or higher.
You should be able to spend at least 6-7 hours per week working in the classroom, either for a full day or split into two mornings or afternoons. The more time you can spend in the classroom, the better your experience will be.
It’s important to make sure you choose the right qualifications if you’re considering a career as a teaching assistant. Ofsted, the education regulator, only accepts qualifications that are listed on the RQF. We’ve heard from many people who have taken online CPD courses from various colleges and online providers, hoping to become a teaching assistant, only to find out that these courses are not accepted by schools or Ofsted.
These courses may seem like a good deal, but they are not recognised as valid qualifications. So, be careful when choosing a course and make sure you choose a recognised qualification from a provider like us, that will help you achieve your career goals.
The average salary depends on the area you live in as this is determined by your local authority, experience and qualifications. You can visit the National Careers Service for a better idea of what you could earn once qualified. You can also take a look at one of the major job sites for an idea of the pay rates in your local area.
If you are aged 16 or above and would like to support both the teaching staff and children in schools, then our courses are for you! You do not need any experience of working in a school to study with the UK Open College, just a passion for learning. We offer a range of recognised Teaching Assistant Qualifications from TQUK and CACHE that are also OFSTED approved.
These online TA courses aim to teach you the supportive role of being a teaching assistant within the classroom. You can study these courses at your own pace, and there is no need to come to our offices for training which means you do not have any travel costs. Materials are either in paper format or online, depending on the Training Provider for your particular Teaching Assistant course.
One of the advantages of studying with us is that you can start your course at any time of the year. You do not have to wait for college intakes during September to get started.
