Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of the most frequently asked questions we receive. Feel free to browse through in your own time.
An Award will only cover the theory based units (4 in total), so no practical units at all.
The Certificate will cover both theory and practical units. (11 in total). Placement is required
The Diploma will cover both theory and practical units just like the certificate (14 in total). However, on the Diploma you will cover 3 additional units relating to working with SEND. Perfect for those looking to work 1-1 with SEND. Placement is required.
For employment purposes, we advise you take a course with placement. Experience in the setting is invaluable.
If you complete a certificate or diploma course, you will require placement. This can be your current employment or a voluntary position.
Placement is not required to take the award.
We recommend a minimum of 1 day per week in reception year or above. The more you do the more experience you are gaining.
No! We are not able to do this unfortunately.
We recommend contacting schools locally and offering to volunteer in exchange for their help in achieving your qualification.
Schools love volunteers for obvious reasons, so please ask!
In most cases yes. If you live outside of the UK, you should be placed in an international school or a school that follows the UK curriculum. This can either be a paid or voluntary position.
You will also need to ensure that the teacher acting as your expert witness holds a teaching qualification obtained here in the UK. (Evidence will be required)
Alternatively, if placement is not available, you could consider the award.
You should be placed in reception year as a minimum. Note: We do not accept students placed in a nursery or preschool for our TA courses.
Those placed in Nursery or Preschool should look to gain a qualification in Early Years instead.
Yes 100% and many learners do. If placement isn’t available to you right now, then you are able to do the award first and then top it up in the future as and when placement becomes a reality.
When viewing the syllabus for both levels, they appear very similar at first glance.
However, on a level 3 course you are required to provide much more detail in your answers on each assignment.
For example a Level 2 assignment will be approx 2,000 words long, whereas on a Level 3 course you are expected to produce approx 4,000 words per assignment.
There are more questions to answer on a level 3 assignment too. Sometimes, twice as many per unit.
Yes and many students do. However, we advise all learners to take a Level 2 if this subject is new and currently have no experience in the TA role.
If you have previous experience or have studied at a good level before then we anticipate no problems at all. If unsure, call us on 0121 792 3872
Sure ! We can provide 24 hours access free of charge to any one of the courses offered. If you are interested and unsure or concerned whether the course is right for you, then by all means make contact and we can provide access for you.
NVQ courses for this sector were abolished approx 10 years ago and no longer exist but we are still asked for these almost every day!
The courses we offer are the direct replacement for the old NVQs.
Schools in England and Northern Ireland will still accept NVQ’s from those students who still hold them.
