    This Teaching Assistant Level 3 NVQ course is available to learners aged 16+ who are interested in working within a school as a teaching assistant, classroom assistant or learning support assistant in reception or above. The aims of the teaching assistant level 3 certificate are to enable students to understand the roles and responsibilities, to those involved in supporting teaching and learning in schools and provides an opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge required to do this effectively in a self-directed way.

    To complete this work based qualification, learners are required to be placed in a classroom setting for a minimum of 1 day per week with children aged 5 and above. We recommend 6/7 hours but this can be spread over two mornings or afternoons to suit personal circumstances. The more you can access the classroom setting the better!

    Alongside placement, learners will access their course lessons, resources and tutor support via our online learning platform The Laser. Everything you need is located here in once convenient place. Log in and out to suit, adapt your studies around family and other commitments. Access is provided for 12 months, however you are able to complete quicker than this with the right commitment and attitude, You have complete flexibility within this period to study how you wish.     Entry Requirements

    No previous qualifications are required.

    A placement either employed or voluntary is required for a minimum of 1 day per week for the duration of the whole Course. The placement must be in a classroom setting (Reception or above). International Students must be based in a school that follows the UK Curriculum

    Course Duration

    Online course access and tutor support are provided for 12 months,  all included in the fee. Complete to suit within this time frame.

    Total Qualification Time (TQT) – 320 Hours

    On average, learners will complete this course within 10 months.

    Course Induction - Zoom

    As part of the enrolment process for this course, all leaners are required to attend a course induction with one of our friendly assessors. These are normally carried out within 7 days of receiving course access. Inductions are carried out using Zoom and are compulsory for all students registered on this course.     This is a great way of meeting one of our assessors who will introduce you to the functions of our learning platform The Laser and answer any questions you may have before progressing. Inductions are provided on a regular basis at times to suit all.

    Assessment

    Learners will be required to complete a series of tutor-marked assignments (normally 1 after each unit) as they progress through this course. Each assignment will contain a variety of tasks/questions. These assignments are assessed by your tutor to monitor progress. You will be provided with constructive feedback to help you in completing each unit to the required standard.

    There is no examination to complete as the course is completed using a continual assessment.

    The practical tasks within each unit of your course will require witnessing by a qualified teacher or SENCO in your placement setting.  Alternatively, you can use a qualified assessor if you are fortunate to have one located within your setting.

    Your expert witness must be suitably qualified to do so as below:

    Have a working knowledge of the units for which they are providing expert testimony.

    Be occupationally competent in their area for which they are providing expert
    testimony:

    Be a qualified teacher or SENCO with QTS status or have EITHER any qualification in assessment of workplace performance eg:

    Hold an A1 or D32 qualification OR a work role which involves evaluating the everyday practice of staff within their area of expertise.

    Evidence/proof of the (EW) qualifications will be required.

    The use of an Expert Witness (EW) should be determined and agreed by the assessor and final assessment decisions must be made by the qualified assessor based at UK Open College.
