    SEND Online Training. Students with additional needs can often present with difficult and ‘big’ emotions. Understanding these difficult emotions and trying to find strategies and solutions is essential for your role. Learn about emotional regulation, how ‘big’ emotions can present, and some strategies you can use in the classroom.

    Learning outcomes

    • You will be able to define difficult or ‘big’ emotions and emotional regulation
    • You will be given some strategies to support SEND students with emotional regulation and de-escalation
    • You will understand some of the neuroscience behind emotional and behavioural responses to stress

     

    Advantages of this SEND online training course

    • As practitioners, it is important to acknowledge the role that school and home plays on students. If something is causing a student anxiety at home, this may play into behaviours seen at school, and vice versa. Learn more about Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory, the behaviour / emotion iceberg, and hidden emotions in the presentation section of this course.
    • The Zones of Regulation, the ‘red beast’, and other helpful tips, tools, and strategies to use in the classroom will be suggested in this course.
    • Additional activities, resources, websites, and videos encourage you to reflect on the learning
    • There is also suggested extended reading that gives both practical information and links to websites to expand knowledge

    Entry Requirements

    There are no previous qualifications required. However, students looking to enrol onto this course should meet the following criteria:

    Be aged 16 Years or above
    Possess a solid knowledge of the English language
    Have access to a PC and the internet for the duration of the whole course
    Basic computer skills: e.g. Word processing, emailing, uploading documents etc
    Have a genuine desire to succeed

    Students do not require a placement to complete this course. 

    Course Duration

    These short courses can be completed in approx 10 hours of study. This will depend on student commitment and ability. Ideal for those who are considering a career in the childcare sector or indeed qualified practitioners looking to enhance their skills in a particular topic.

    Study Method

    Students are able to complete their course purely online though our student portal. Students can expect to receive access to the student portal via email within 1 working days of enrolment being received.

    Once enrolment is received we will email you access and log in information to make a start on your chosen course.

    Assessment

    Students will progress through a series of topics online through our student portal. As students progress through the course they will complete four lots of multiple choice quiz type assessments. If you dont complete first time you can try the assessments again at no extra charge.
