TQUK Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools Level 3 Award (RQF)

Fully online Teaching Assistant Course. TQUK accredited “Award in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools” level 3 course is suitable for all support staff roles in schools. The teaching assistant course aims to enable learners to understand the roles and responsibilities of those involved in supporting teaching and learning in schools.

It prepares students to support the Teacher and the delivery of curriculum within a school, as well as developing skills to help children and young people to develop self-esteem, independence and to acquire the skills of learning.

The training assistant course also helps to further develop professional and technical skills and knowledge and aims to deliver an understanding of the importance of positive relationships within a school.

It will develop your knowledge and understanding of all the critical areas you need in a school setting:

  • including the safeguarding of children
  • communication skills 
  • understanding the school context and environment.

If you are already working in a school or able to arrange a voluntary placement, then you may wish to consider the TQUK Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools Level 3 Certificate.

Course Syllabus

Learners will complete 4 units of study as listed below.
4 tutor marked assignments to complete

Understand children and young person development

Understand the expected pattern of development for children & young people from birth – 19 years
Understand the factors that influence children & young peoples development and how these affect practice
Understand how to monitor children & young peoples development and interventions that should take place if this is not following the expected pattern
Understand the importance of early intervention to support the speech, language and communication needs of children & young people

Understand how to safeguard the wellbeing of children and young people

Understand the main legislation, guidelines, policies & procedures for safeguarding children & young people
Understand the importance of working in partnership with other organisations to safeguard children & young people
Understand the importance of ensuring children & young people’s safety and protection in the work setting
Understand how to respond to evidence or concerns that a child or young person has been abused or harmed
Understand how to respond to evidence or concerns that a child or young person has been bullied
Understand how to work with children & young people to support their safety and wellbeing
Understand the importance of e-safety for children & young people

Communication and professional relationships with children, young people and adults

Understand the principles of developing positive relationships with children, young people and adults
Understand how to communicate with children, young people and adults
Understand legislation, policies and procedures for confidentiality and sharing information, including date protection

Schools as organisations

Know the structure of education from early years to post-compulsory education
Understand how schools are organised in terms of roles and responsibilities
Understand school ethos, mission, aims and values
Know about the legislation affecting schools

 

Entry Requirements

There are no previous qualifications required. However, students looking to enrol onto this course should meet the following criteria:

Be aged 16 Years or above
Possess a solid knowledge of the English language
Have access to a PC and the internet for the duration of the whole course
Basic computer skills: e.g. Word processing, emailing, uploading documents etc
Have a genuine desire to succeed

Students do not require a placement to complete this course. 

Course Duration

Online course access and tutor support are provided for 6 months,  all included in the fee. Complete to suit within this time frame.

Guided Learning Hours (GLH) – 80 Hours
Total Qualification Time (TQT) – 120 Hours

On average, learners will complete this course within 4 months.

This course provides successful students with a fully recognised qualification from TQUK, listed on the RQF (Regulated Qualifications Framework). TQUK is recognised as an awarding organisation by the qualification regulators for England and Northern Ireland, who are: the office of the qualifications and examinations regulator (OFQUAL) in England and the council for curriculum, examinations and assessment (CCA) in Northern Ireland.

Please note: This qualification is not recognised in Scotland or Wales.

Assessment

Learners will be required to complete a series of tutor-marked assignments ( normally 1 after each unit) as they progress through this course. Each assignment will contain a variety of tasks/questions. These assignments are assessed by your tutor to monitor progress. You will be provided with constructive feedback to help you in completing each unit to the required standard.

There is no examination to complete as the course is completed using continual assessment.
