    Description

Nurturing Development Short Course. This short course explores early child development in the Specific Areas of the EYFS: Literacy, mathematics, understanding the world, and expressive arts and design. It covers birth to 3 years, and suggests activities and interactions that nurture development for parents and early years practitioners to try with the babies and toddlers they care for.

    Learning outcomes

    • You will know the expected developmental milestones for the Specific Areas of the EYFS for babies and toddler aged 0-3 years
    • You will know that whilst the focus in the 0-3 years age group should be on the Prime Areas, developing in the Specific Areas supports overall development and it is never too early to lay the foundations for literacy, maths, understanding the world, and art and design
    • You will understand how a close bond between caregiver and child will enable them to thrive in their early years and beyond
    • You will be able to nurture development through play, reading, singing, talking, and other activities at home or in your early years setting

Advantages of this Nurturing Development short course

    • You can have a huge impact on how well a child develops in their early years. If you know how to nurture development and form close bonds with a young child, then you will help the child develop important life skills, positive traits, and positive relationships with other adults in the future. This course suggests activities, interactions, and tips for working with young children that will help you make a positive impact on their young life.
    • There are 9 wonderful videos by Born Smart showing good practice in interacting with children aged 11 – 36 months. They show either a mother or father interacting with their child, but the interactions can also be tried by early years practitioners.
    • Additional activities, and a Case Study, encourages you to reflect on your learning and put it into practice
    • There is also suggested extended learning that gives both practical information, links to websites to expand knowledge, and 2 extra videos from Born Smart for an 8-month-old baby and a 26-month-old toddler.
