    Description

Pearson Edexcel A Level English Language & Literature Self Study Course (Specification 9EL0)

Develop your analytical, creative and communication skills with our Pearson Edexcel A Level English Language & Literature Self Study Course (Specification 9EL0). This engaging qualification combines the study of language and literature, enabling you to explore how writers and speakers shape meaning, identity and perspective across a wide range of texts. Ideal for students progressing to university or careers in journalism, publishing, media, teaching, law and communications, this course encourages critical thinking alongside confident and effective written expression.

Throughout the course, you will investigate how language is used in both literary and non-literary contexts, examining the relationship between linguistic choices and literary techniques. You’ll study a variety of prose, drama, poetry and spoken texts, developing the skills to analyse language, compare texts and evaluate the influence of context, audience and purpose. The specification covers three key components: Voices in Speech and Writing, Varieties in Language and Literature, and the non-exam assessment, Investigating and Creating Texts. As part of your studies, you will produce original writing, undertake independent research and apply both linguistic and literary approaches to your analysis, helping you become a confident and versatile communicator.

Assessment consists of two written examinations and one non-exam assessment (coursework). The written papers account for 80% of the final A Level and assess your ability to analyse unseen material, compare texts and explore literary and linguistic concepts. The remaining 20% is awarded for coursework, where you will complete original writing alongside an analytical commentary, demonstrating your creativity and understanding of language and literature in practice.

Our flexible self-study course allows you to learn at your own pace, fitting your studies around work, family or other commitments. With comprehensive learning materials and expert tutor support available throughout your studies, you’ll gain a highly respected A Level qualification that provides an excellent foundation for higher education and careers in English, creative writing, journalism, media, publishing, marketing, public relations and many other professional fields.

    Examination Fees

As a private candidate, it is the student’s responsibility to arrange their own examinations and practical assessment if required. This is not part of the service offered by UK Open College.

This should be done prior to enrolment with us. It is your responsibility to ensure you have the necessary arrangements in place & confirmed.

Fees for these services can vary hugely from centre to centre. It may be worth travelling out of the area. (It’s worth it)
You can view a list of official AQA approved examination centres here

The later you leave it to arrange, the more expensive it can be. At times, it can be impossible to arrange so plan ahead. (8 months minimum recommended)

Your contract with us is for the course and support only. We will not refund you outside of the 14 days cooling-off period if you have not confirmed these arrangements with your selected centre.

Enquire & confirm with your chosen centre, do not leave it to chance!

    UCAS Points & Predicted Grades

All of our A Levels will provide you with UCAS points upon successful completion of your examinations. The amount you receive will depend on the grade achieved as detailed below. Tutors can also provide predicted grades for university based on your completed assessments within the course for a fee of £60.00. This is a one off fee regardless of how many subjects are taken. For example: If you have taken 3 A level Subjects you only pay the £60.00 once (Not per Subject)

The majority of our A Levels will require a minimum of 3 completed assignments and correspondence to provide a predicted grade. We would advise you register for your course 3 months in advance of when you need a predicted grade for.  Eg: if you require a predicted grade for January, then you should enrol in Sept and aim to compete the 3 tutor marked assessments by December.
