Recognising & Supporting Special Needs course content
Learning outcome
- You will learn that various pieces of legislation provide legal rights for disabled children and give responsibilities to providers of services for children and young people
- You will learn about ‘child- and young person-led’ models of delivery where the service is influenced by the people using it
- You will learn that, as with all children, observation is a key starting point in making an assessment of children’s needs, learning, and development
ADHD course content
Learning outcomes
- You will have a comprehensive understanding of ADHD and how it can affect children and young people throughout their lives
- You will be able to recognise, and respond to, a child or young person showing signs of ADHD
- You will know where to go for help and support, and who to turn to for advice on managing symptoms
The Role of the SENCO
Learning outcome
- You will know what is meant by Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND)
- You will understand the importance of early identification and intervention for children with SEND
- As a SENCo in an early years setting, you are responsible for ensuring children with SEND are getting the support they need and having their needs met. There may be times when the support the child needs is more than the early years setting can provide. This short course will describe the action you will need to take when this happens, the type of professionals you may need to work with outside of the setting, and how EHC plans work
Dyslexia course content
Learning outcomes
- Understand the condition and how it can affect reading, writing, spelling, and comprehension. Dyslexia isn’t just about literacy and affects other areas of learning. These areas will be outlined in the course.
- Find out about the other specific learning difficulties/disabilities associated with dyslexia
- Learn about the signs and symptoms of dyslexia in the early years, school aged children, and young adults. Persisting factors into adulthood will also be described.
- Understand the importance of early identification and Individual Education Plans
Dyspraxia course content
Learning outcomes
- Understand how the disorder affects learning and the connection between dyspraxia and other Specific Learning Difficulties (SLD)
- Know the symptoms of dyspraxia in pre-school children, school-aged children, young people, and adults Understand what to do if you think a learner is showing signs of dyspraxia, and the identification and assessment process
- Gain an insight into living with dyspraxia and classroom strategies to use to help children overcome problems associated with the disorder
