This Online Ornithology Course (level 3) will assist students in exploring the world of birds. Ornithology is the scientific study of birds. It is a branch of zoology that focuses on understanding the behavior, ecology, physiology, anatomy, and classification of birds. Ornithologists study various aspects of bird life. Ornithology can involve fieldwork, such as bird watching and data collection in natural habitats, or laboratory work analysing specimens and genetic data. Bird enthusiasts often contribute valuable observations to ornithological studies, making it a field that combines professional research with contributions from citizen scientists.
Learners are able to register online 365 days a year.
This ornithology course will allow students to:
- Understand the form and function of feathers
- Describe the physics and biology of flight in birds
- Recognise different modes of bird flight
- Understand the reasons behind migration
- Summarise how birds are physically able to undertake vast migrations
- Understand how different birds are able to navigate incredibly long distances
- Analyse the sex organs of birds & the importance and structure of the egg
- Explain family dynamics and the use of nests in the nurturing of young
- Describe mating systems found in birds and various courtship rituals
- Differentiate between different diets, foraging and predator avoidance methods
