    This Online Ornithology Course (level 3) will assist students in exploring the world of birds. Ornithology is the scientific study of birds. It is a branch of zoology that focuses on understanding the behavior, ecology, physiology, anatomy, and classification of birds. Ornithologists study various aspects of bird life. Ornithology can involve fieldwork, such as bird watching and data collection in natural habitats, or laboratory work analysing specimens and genetic data. Bird enthusiasts often contribute valuable observations to ornithological studies, making it a field that combines professional research with contributions from citizen scientists.

    This ornithology course will allow students to:

    UNIT 4: MATING & COURTSHIP
    Four main mating systems witnessed in birds
    Selection of courtship strategies in birds
    Importance and functions of bird song
    Family dynamics of a typical bird nest

    UNIT 5: FEEDING & PREDATION
    Diets found in different bird species
    Species of bird track down food or prey
    Feeding territories and other methods that optimise foraging
    Variety of methods utilised by birds to avoid predators

    UNIT 6: POPULATIONS & CONSERVATION
    Various factors can affect the size of bird populations
    The ecological concept of community
    Variety of methods by which communities diversify
    Conservation with respect to bird populations and species

    Entry Requirements

    There are no previous qualifications required. However, students looking to enrol onto this course should meet the following criteria:

    Be aged 16 Years or above
    Possess a solid knowledge of the English language
    Have access to a PC and the internet for the duration of the whole course
    Basic computer skills: e.g. Word processing, emailing, uploading documents etc
    Have a genuine desire to succeed

    Course Duration

    This course comes with 12 months of support included:

    Guided Learning Hours (GLH) – 80 Hours
    Total Qualification Time (TQT) – 100 Hours

    On average, learners will complete this course within 6 months.

    Course Outcome

    ABC Quality License Scheme – Certificate of Achievement

    At the end of this course, successful learners will receive a Certificate of Achievement from ABC Awards and Certa Awards and a Learner Unit Summary (which lists the details all of the units you have completed as part of your course).

    Assessment

    Learners will be required to complete a series of tutor-marked assignments ( normally 1 after each unit) as they progress through this course. Each assignment will contain a variety of tasks/questions. These assignments are assessed by your tutor to monitor progress. You will be provided with constructive feedback to help you in completing each unit to the required standard.

    There is no examination to complete as the course is completed using continual assessment.
