Description
This short Dementia Awareness course is intended to give you an overview of the common types and symptoms of dementia as well as going into how it can affect the brain in different ways. It also covers strategies to use with clients with dementia and dealing with challenging behaviour.
Dementia is a broad term used to describe a range of symptoms associated with a decline in cognitive function severe enough to interfere with daily life. It encompasses various conditions characterised by impairment in memory, thinking, and reasoning skills. Dementia is not a specific disease but rather a syndrome caused by different underlying diseases and conditions.
While there is no cure for most types of dementia, treatments can help manage symptoms. These may include medications, cognitive therapies, lifestyle changes, and support from caregivers and healthcare professionals. Managing underlying health conditions and adopting a healthy lifestyle can also help slow progression and improve quality of life.
The Dementia Awareness course is intended for anyone who works with or around people that may be living with dementia.
