    Develop the knowledge and practical skills needed for a successful career in accounting, finance or business with our AQA A Level Accounting course (Specification 7127). Designed for students who want to understand how businesses record, manage and interpret financial information, this qualification provides a strong foundation for university study, apprenticeships and professional accounting qualifications.

    Throughout this A Level Accounting course, you will explore both financial accounting and management accounting, learning how organisations prepare accurate financial records, produce final accounts and use accounting information to support informed business decisions. Key topics include the double entry system, preparation of financial statements, budgeting, costing methods, investment appraisal, partnership and limited company accounts, ratio analysis and the ethical responsibilities of accountants. You will also develop valuable analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills that are highly sought after by employers.

    The AQA A Level Accounting qualification is assessed through two written examinations taken at the end of the course. Each three-hour paper contributes 50% of the overall A Level grade and includes a mixture of multiple-choice, short-answer, structured and extended-response questions, allowing students to demonstrate both technical knowledge and analytical ability.

    UNIT 1: INTRODUCTION TO FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING

    UNIT 2: INTRODUCTION TO FINANCIAL STATEMENTS
    • Preparation of financial statement for sole traders
    • Accounting for organisations with incomplete records

    • The implications of ethical considerations
    UNIT 3: INTRODUCTION TO MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING
    • Budgeting
    • Marginal costing
    • Standard costing and variance analysis
    • Absorption and activity-based costing
    UNIT 4: FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR LIMITED COMPANIES
    • Limited company accounts
    • Accounting for limited companies

    Entry Requirements

    There are no previous qualifications required to register for this course.

    Course Duration

    This course comes with 24 months support included:

    Guided Learning Hours (GLH) – 360 Hours
    Total Qualification Time (TQT) – 700 Hours

    Assessment

    There will be 2 paper-based exams, which will cover all of the units studied. A more detailed breakdown of the exam details is provided below:

    Paper 1

    Type: Written examination
    Duration: 3 hours
    Assessed: Sections 1-8, and 14-18 of the subject content
    Assessment format: 3 compulsory sections.

    • Section A has 10 multiple choice questions and several short answer questions. The section is worth 40 marks
    • Section B has two structured questions each worth 20 marks. The section is worth 40 marks
    • Section C has two extended answer questions worth 25 marks. The section is worth 50 marks.

    Paper 2

    Type: Written examination
    Duration: 3 hours

    • Assessed: Sections 1-3, 8-13, and 17-18 of the subject content
    • Assessment format: 3 compulsory sections.
      • Section A has 10 multiple choice questions and several short answer questions. The section is worth 30 marks
      • Section B has two structured questions each worth 20 marks. The section is worth 40 marks
      • Section C has two extended answer questions worth 25 marks. The section is worth 50 marks

     

    Additional Examination Fees

    As a private candidate, it is the students responsibility to arrange their own examinations and practical assessment if required. This is not part of the service offered by UK Open College.

    This should be done prior to enrolment with us. It is your responsibility to ensure you have the necessary arrangements in place & confirmed. This is very easy to do but you need to book in advanced to avoid late booking fees. We estimate between £300.-£500 per subject (Not per paper)

    Fees for these services can vary hugely from centre to centre. It may be worth travelling out of area. (It’s worth it)

    You can also try www.tutorsandexams.uk who have a number of centres located across the UK. They deal with private candidates all the time and will be happy to help with booking if required.

    The later you leave it to arrange, the more expensive it can be. At times, it can be impossible to arrange so plan ahead. (6 months minimum recommended)

    Your contract with us is for the course and support only. We will not refund you outside of the 14 day cooling off period if you have not confirmed these arrangements with your selected centre.

    UCAS Points & Predicted Grades

    All of our A Levels will provide you with UCAS points upon successful completion of your examinations. The amount you receive will depend on the grade achieved as detailed below. Tutors can also provide predicted grades for university based on your completed assessments within the course for a fee of £60.00. This is a one off fee regardless of how many subjects are taken. For example: If you have taken 3 A level Subjects you only pay the £60.00 once (Not per Subject)

    The majority of our A Levels will require a minimum of 3 completed assignments and correspondence to provide a predicted grade. We would advise you register for your course 3 months in advance of when you need a predicted grade for.  Eg: if you require a predicted grade for January, then you should enrol in Sept and aim to compete the 3 tutor marked assessments by December.
